Work & Travel USA (students)
Work & Travel USA program is an exchange visitor program that enables foreign university students to gain a greater understanding of the United States by providing them an opportunity to work and travel in the United States. The Exchange Visitor Program is carried out pursuant to the Mutual Educational and Cultural Exchange Act of 1961, as amended. Its purpose is to enhance understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries through educational and cultural exchanges.
This program is designed to achieve the educational objectives of international exchange by directly involving students in the daily life of the country during their holiday. It allows the participant to earn modest spending money and, at the same time, offset some living and travel expenses during their stay in the U.S. After finishing their work commitment, students have an optional travel period to sightsee and further explore the American landscape.
You need to be aware that there will be many things to adjust to while in the U.S. You need to adapt to a new environment, communicate with foreigners, and learn to live independently while being far from home. You will be doing all this while maintaining a work schedule. The Work &Travel can be challenging and rewarding program, with the right attitude and the willingness to learn and work hard.
Remember that the goal of the Work & Travel program is to provide a cultural exchange. The knowledge and experiences that you gain from this program will be the result of your own efforts and enthusiasm.

Placement Details:
Type of job
US Department regulations prohibit the placement of program participants as domestic help in U.S. households or in positions requiring them to invest their own money for inventory, such as door-to-door sales. Most participants typically work in non-skilled service positions at:
- Resorts,
- Hotels,
- Restaurants,
- Amusement parks, etc.
We are working to have a variety of job positions available to offer in our program. We are looking to place each participant in a job or position based upon his/her interest and skills. However, it is very important that you are flexible about the type of work you will be doing.
Job locations
Starway has a certain number of jobs in many locations around the country. You should also be aware that some locations are a lot colder or hotter and more humid than the climate you experience at home.
Most of the jobs are located throughout the United States in resort areas, not in city centers.
Pay
The salaries you will get should cover the cost of living and enable you to save some extra money to help to reduce travel expenses. With Starway job, you can generally expect a 8 hour workday and a 5-6 day workweek. You will probably be working 40 hours a week. You can expect to receive 7 to 10$ per hour in non-tipped positions and 3-4$ per hour in tipped positions.
Applicant should also keep in mind that most jobs are dependent upon tourist activity. Employees are generally paid every two weeks. Depending on when you start your job, you may not to receive your first pay for the first 3-4 weeks. We recommend having 500-700 USD upon arrival above the cost of travel to jour job, first month’s rent, and a security deposit for housing, if applicable.
Accomodation Details
Housing and meals
Starway works to find reasonably priced housing for most participants. In some cases, the Host Company will provide housing. Sometimes you will have to find your own housing. We will try to assist you as much as we can. You should be prepared to pay average of 65 to 120$ per week for accommodation.
You will usually be responsible for buying and preparing your own food, although in some cases your employer will provide meals. Depending on your preferences, you will be spending 60 to 150$ monthly for food.
